Learn what the Codenames Pictures Promo Tiles pack includes, which edition it works with, and how these five tiles can change your game.
Quick answer
The Codenames Pictures Promo Tiles add five alternate tiles (two agents, three bystanders) originally released at Gen Con 2016. They are only compatible with the first edition of Codenames Pictures, so check your box before buying.
Why the edition matters
The promo tiles were designed for the first edition of Codenames Pictures. The new edition uses different tile colors, so these promo tiles will not match visually or functionally. Always confirm you own the first edition before purchasing.
What you get in the pack
The pack contains five tiles: two agent tiles and three bystander tiles. They were originally given as a bonus when buying Codenames Pictures at Gen Con 2016. The tiles are not required to play, but they offer a small visual variation for experienced groups.
Frequently asked questions
- Do these promo tiles change the rules?
- No. The tiles replace the standard agent and bystander tiles but do not alter any rules or gameplay mechanics. They are purely cosmetic.
- Can I use them with the new edition of Codenames Pictures?
- No. The tile colors differ between the first and new editions, so the promo tiles will not match the rest of the components. They are only compatible with the first edition. Check your game box cover or manual to confirm you own the first edition.
- Are these tiles essential for playing?
- No. The base game already includes all the tiles you need. This promo pack is an optional cosmetic variant for collectors or players who want a slight visual change.
