I thought being the bad guy would feel wrong, but stacking evil points to lure tougher adventurers into my dungeon ended up being the best part. Every round you're weighing whether to grab more resources or play nicer, and that tension keeps everyone at the table leaning in.
The resource competition is brutal in the best way, and I love that leaning into evil actually makes your dungeon attract tougher adventurers. Lost my first two games badly and still wanted to immediately set it up again.
I went full evil on my last play and the adventurers that showed up were way tougher than I'd planned for. Balancing how nasty you want to be against the resources you actually need is such a clever tension. My group is already asking when we can lose to it again.
